Cubans rarely use the term “gringo,” slang for American heard in Mexico and throughout Latin America. While some here refer to Americans as “yanquis” in a derogatory way, “Yuma” generally is not meant to be offensive.
On this route you will cycle from Matanzas to Havana and beyond, all the way to the western tip of Cuba.
Beyond the north coastal route, we cycle through the western province of Pinar del Río and the Valle Viñales. The quiet back roads of western Cuba will take you past lush green fields of tobacco, through the Viñales Valley surrounded by unique limestone formations and on to a beach and coral reefs.
This amazing tour includes visits to famous caves, interesting towns and ancient coffee farms.
Ride through the Vueltabajo region, famous for its fine soil: the Tobacco grown here is reputed to be the finest in the world followed ,by the gentle Trade wind blow from the Atlantic, giving a gentle push to your destination.
Bus back into the wind. You have just risen through Cuba in the raw meeting a broad section of its population, from city to mountain hut dwellers.
This is truly an amazing nation of survivors, farmers, doctors, fishermen, improvising at every turn in their daily lives.
Do not forget your camera, memories fade. We have been doing these rides for over 20 years and still can’t get enough of this Cuba.
Columbus was right when he stated, “this is a most beautiful land”
